Welcoming Our New Medical Team!

At Handspun Hope, we have always believed in caring for the whole person—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. As we continue to grow in our mission of empowerment and healing, we’re overjoyed to share the newest expansion of our support services: the addition of an on-site medical team!

In April, we welcomed a full-time nurse, Arlene Umwiza, and a part-time doctor, Dr. Jean-Paul Niyomugabo, to our staff—marking a significant step forward in the way we care for the women and their children. For many of the women we serve, accessing reliable healthcare has been challenging, often requiring time away from work and long waiting lines. Now, care is available on our campus.

We sincerely appreciate a generous donation from a couple who visited our campus late last year and witnessed firsthand the need for accessible, quality healthcare. Thanks to their kindness and vision, we now have the financial support to hire both a doctor and a nurse, ensuring essential medical care for the women we serve each day.

Our full-time nurse offers daily health support, including basic first aid, illness prevention, and health education. With the support of a licensed physician who visits every Friday, we’re able to provide a broader range of services, including more complex consultations and ongoing treatment.

This addition is a natural and necessary extension of our commitment to holistic care. Many of the women in our cooperative are survivors of unimaginable trauma, and access to compassionate healthcare is a critical piece of their long-term healing and stability.

The presence of this new medical team ensures that the women—and their children—can continue building healthy, hope-filled lives.

As always, we remain committed to walking alongside every woman in our care, providing the tools and resources she needs to flourish in every area of life.

Thank you for being part of this beautiful and growing story of hope!
